Pacing

Pacing / window of tolerance

Window-of-tolerance pacing language

What it is

Pacing language inspired by window-of-tolerance themes slows the conversation when someone is flooded. Non-clinical; no diagnosis; not medical advice.

When Mediate uses it

When overwhelm or shutdown shows up, Mediate may suggest a slower pace or cool-down rather than pushing repair language.

Key tools

Pace down

May invite a cool-down

Slow the conversation. Suggest pause. Private: grounding without clinical claims.

Try saying…

Private: “We’re moving faster than you can stay present. Break, then one topic only.”

Patterns it watches for

  • Outside window of tolerance

Cues like: “can't process”, “numb”, “panicking”, “too fast”

Notes

Non-clinical pacing language inspired by window-of-tolerance / polyvagal-lite themes. No diagnosis. Not medical advice.
